The Challenge

The company was currently under a Transformational Project of existing SAP landscape “Harmony” to a new SAP HANA project “E-Cube”. As a strategic initiative, they were planning to migrate the SAP core application modules from their existing SAP-Unix environment to an x86 platform. The company wanted to upgrade their SAP application and to implement SAP HANA (in memory Database) for faster response time. They wanted full proof solution with zero downtime, as whole business is dependable on SAP (ERP) application.

The Solution

After the initial study was completed, Galaxy,Lenovo and IBM performed a feasibility study and developed a business case to determine all of the project’s steps. These included:

Assessment of local networks and attachments
Technical analysis to support a wide area network (WAN)
Information gathering for proper solution designing

Galaxy proposed three site architectures on proven hardware technology. Data center, Near Disaster recovery site and Far Disaster recovery site. DC and NDR are in same City, 2 KM apart and FDR is in different City. All three locations use Spectrum Virtualization Software for Storage Virtualization + Flash Copy manager for Local Protection (Snap Shots) and Storage replication software is been used for replication between (DC/NDR & FDR) DC to NDR : Metro mirror been used and NDR to FDR: Global Mirror been used. Galaxy, Lenovo and IBM worked together to execute the entire project, from configuring hardware and installing software to providing educational services. Galaxy implemented the following hardware and software for all the sites:

Certified SAP Hana Appliances from Lenovo.
Lenovo Flex Blade Chassis with X240 compute nodes for SAP applications
Operating system – Suse linux Enterprise Server
Storage – IBM V7000 and IBM FlashSystem 820 along with IBM Spectrum Virtualize Software
